For Our American Customers
Share
Recent changes in U.S. customs policy have made it more difficult for international publishers to ship books and music across the Atlantic. At Felix Editions, we want our American customers to continue to have access to our printed editions — at prices that remain fair, transparent, and sustainable.
Lower product prices, higher shipping fees
Until now, part of the shipping cost was included in the product price, which kept checkout fees modest. In the United States this is no longer workable, since import tariffs and duties must be collected separately upon delivery.
We have therefore restructured our pricing for the U.S. market:
- Product prices are significantly lower, because shipping costs are no longer included in the catalogue price.
- Shipping is available only via express couriers (UPS, DHL, FedEx) and is charged separately at checkout — currently about €35 / $40 per order. For all other countries, our flat-rate shipping fees remain unchanged (€10, €12.50, or €15 depending on your region).
In practice this means: the editions themselves are cheaper, shipping is more expensive, and the overall out-of-pocket cost remains broadly comparable to before.
Extra transparency for U.S. customers
Because of the complex U.S. customs situation, we now separate product and shipping completely. This ensures that tariffs are only calculated on the product itself — not on the product plus embedded shipping costs. In other words: this structure keeps the duties you pay as low as possible.
How prices compare
Here are a few concrete examples that show how this works in practice:
-
One large work: Schuncke’s Grande Sonate
-
Previously: $30 + $15 shipping = $45
-
Now: $18 + $40 shipping = $58
-
One small + one large work: Henselt’s Impromptus and Loewe’s Zigeunersonate
-
Previously: $21 + $30 + $15 shipping = $66
-
Now: $14 + $18 + $40 shipping = $72
-
An anthology + one large + one small work: Henselt’s Piano Works, De Hartog’s Sonate-Symphonie, and Van den Sigtenhorst Meyer’s Six Views of Mount Fuji
-
Previously: $47 + $30 + $21 + $15 shipping = $113
-
Now: $30 + $18 + $14 + $40 shipping = $102 ($11 cheaper than before)
These examples show the new balance: a single item is more expensive than before, while combined orders remain very close in price — and in some cases, even cheaper.
Customs and delivery
- Express couriers only – shipping to the U.S. is handled exclusively by express services.
- Faster delivery – 2–3 business days from the Netherlands, excluding customs clearance.
- Customs duties – import tariffs, sales tax, and handling fees are collected by the courier upon delivery.
Our recommendation
- Digital editions remain the most cost-effective option: instantly available, with no shipping or customs fees.
- Printed editions are still fully available, at lower catalogue prices, shipped via reliable express couriers.
Looking ahead
We are working closely with our logistics partners and are actively exploring cooperation with a U.S.-based distributor. Our goal is to make printed editions available in America at sustainable rates, without the complications of international shipping. Updates will be posted here as soon as we have news.
