About us

Established with a distinct focus, Felix Editions is a music publishing house dedicated to the revival of overlooked musical compositions, many of which hail from the 19th century. While some works may originate from composers eclipsed by the sheer brilliance of their celebrated contemporaries, others emerge from equally talented musicians who faced unfortunate setbacks—be it personal circumstances, health challenges, or shifts in public taste.

Our Objective

We strive to present these lesser-known works in editions that meet the same rigorous standards one would associate with compositions by Chopin, Liszt, R. Schumann, or Mendelssohn. In doing so, we serve both musicians and listeners who seek to explore beyond the well-trodden paths of the classical canon.

Our Process

Our commitment to authenticity guides our editorial methods. We meticulously construct a new, critical text, drawing on the most reliable sources available. Recognising that 19th-century publishers had already attained a certain level of refinement, we evaluate multiple sources for each work, often including the composers' original manuscripts and their final amendments to published versions.

Challenges and Solutions

Given that these overlooked composers haven't received the same scholarly attention as their more famous counterparts, source material can be limited. When confronted with this scarcity, our approach is still rigorous. We assess various editions, judiciously comparing them to distill the most faithful representation of the original text, thereby rectifying errors found in earlier publications.

Final Presentation

Upon finalising the musical text, we devote careful attention to the visual and functional aspects of the score. Far from a sterile, mechanical appearance, our editions boast an inviting, artisanal quality. By marrying traditional notation aesthetics with contemporary layout practices, we produce scores that are not only visually pleasing but also optimally functional for the performer.
