Collection: Sigtenhorst Meyer, Bernhard van den

Bernard van den Sigtenhorst Meyer (1888–1953) occupies a unique place in twentieth-century music. Unmoved by the avant-garde currents of his time, he developed a quiet, introspective style rooted in nature, Dutch landscapes, and Eastern aesthetics. Inspired by painters and poets as much as by composers, he sought not to dramatize nature but to evoke its essence in sound—through restraint, clarity, and abstraction.

His piano music is refined, atmospheric, and modest in scale. Suites such as Six Views of Mount Fuji or Capri unfold as sequences of delicate tone-paintings: transparent in texture, subtle in harmony, and rich in expressive nuance. Rather than relying on virtuosity, they demand imagination, colour, and control.

Felix Editions publishes Urtext editions of Sigtenhorst Meyer’s piano music based on original sources, combining editorial precision with insight into his understated musical world.
