Marius van Paassen (editor)

Marius van Paassen is a pianist and composer. Following his debut in the Main Hall of Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw with Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto, Van Paassen appeared as a soloist with symphony and radio orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad. He has made numerous radio recordings, and the Attacca label has released albums devoted to his own compositions, established repertoire, and less frequently performed composers.

From 1985 to 2018, Van Paassen taught principal-study piano at the ArtEZ Conservatory in the Netherlands. He has given masterclasses at conservatoires in Leeds, Luxembourg, Lisbon, and St Petersburg, and now coaches advanced pianists in Amsterdam.

Alongside his work as a performer of contemporary and well-known classical music, and as a composer, Van Paassen has contributed to the rediscovery of overlooked piano music. His projects include first recordings and performances of works by Anton Rubinstein, Alexander Voormolen, and Jan Brandts Buys, as well as the first recording of Bernhard van den Sigtenhorst Meyer’s Eight Preludes, Op. 17. For Felix Editions, he served as editor of the first new edition of Sigtenhorst Meyer’s Six Views of Mount Fuji, Op. 9, and wrote its preface.
