Martijn Vromans (founder and editor)

Martijn Vromans is the founder and editor of Felix Editions, an independent music publisher dedicated to bringing overlooked piano repertoire back into circulation through carefully researched, clearly presented, and practical editions.

A lawyer by training and a serious amateur pianist with a particular interest in the music of Franz Liszt, Vromans has worked professionally as an editor for five years, following some fifteen years of independent study and editorial work. His approach combines meticulous source research with close attention to musical notation, page layout, and the practical needs of performers.

For each edition, Vromans identifies and evaluates the best available source material, ranging from composers’ manuscripts and first editions to later publications. Where the surviving sources or editorial history require specialist knowledge, he collaborates with performers, scholars, and organisations devoted to individual composers. Letters and other historical documents are also considered when they can clarify the music or its transmission. The resulting editions include a critical commentary explaining the sources consulted and the editorial decisions made.

His work for Felix Editions encompasses music by Clara Schumann, Adolf von Henselt, Joseph Woelfl, Eduard de Hartog, and other underrepresented composers. Among his major projects is a new edition of the Vaterländischer Künstlerverein: Anton Diabelli’s celebrated waltz variation together with the fifty variations contributed by his contemporaries, presented in a reliable and thoughtfully designed modern edition.
